Following the the attack on Mars, the most devastating attack on Federation soil since the Dominion attacked Earth, the Federation changed. They became more insular, sealing their borders and limiting contact beyond them, aggressively protecting their space with a stronger military presence. However there remained the longing that exists in every Starfleet Officer, the longing to seek out new life, new civilisations and explore the frontier.

Now in 2399, for the first time since the most devastating attack on the Federation since the Dominion War, new front of exploration is considered by the Federation Council and Starfleet Command. Following the collapse of the Romulan Star Empire and the dissolution of the Neutral Zone, an area of space has finally become open to the Federation.

The Khloeros Corridor, as it has become known, is an area of space that has never been explored by the Federation, with several first contacts within the first few lightyears of the corridor itself, let alone the space beyond.

Starfleet order that the space station formerly known as Empok Nor, be redesignated, Deep Space 13, formerly known as Empok Nor, to operate as a Base of Operations and also to manage the minor skirmishes and issues that are arising between the new established Romulan Free State and the Cardassian Union.

Starfleet select several ships to form a small task group begin initial exploration and mapping efforts of the corridor, before beginning to explore the space beyond and support Deep Space 13 in managing the complex situation.

Starfleet could not begin a new exploration, for the first time since 2385 and not have a ship named Excelsior leading from the front. One of the new Odyssey Class starships was given the name Excelsior, the fifth ship to bear the name. And with its roots firmly embedded in being at the forefront of exploration, no significant exploration initiative could be undertaken without a ship named Excelsior.

The USS Excelsior holds a proud place throughout history, even today in 2399. Originally dubbed the Great Experiment and commanded by one Hikaru Sulu.
With its long history, the name Excelsior has a special place in the hearts and minds of many, not to mention many of its former Captain's, particularly Cortez, Dovan and of course Hikaru Sulu

Each Captain has always carried with them a pocket watch, reminding them to stay grounded. The inscription on the pocket watch read ‘No Matter Where You Go, There You Are.”

An old and frail romulan male opened his eyes to the sound of a distant melody being sung by feathered fowl beyond the cabin walls. His face bared his age and trails, his features darkened, his eyes clouded, and the top of his head entirely void of hair. He lifted…
